                           Maintaining Your Countertop

Diamond Surfaces was created to provide a sustainable countertop that is luxurious and easily maintained.   Follow these simple guidelines to help keep your Diamond Surfaces countertop looking like new.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Clean your countertop with soapy water, ammonia based cleaners (do not use window cleaners as they can dull the surface) or cleaners made specifically for solid surface. Be sure to dry your top after cleaning. Drying after cleaning limits the potential for mineral deposits to form and cloud the surface of your countertop creating a blotchy appearance. Some finishes may require more attention to maintenance to keep a uniform finish. There are three basic types of finishes: matte, satin and gloss. Most countertops are finished with a matte finish. Lighter colors typically are the easiest to maintain. All solid surface colors may experience a slight patina over time, but the material can be refurbished to its original finish. Water spots can be cleaned with a mild abrasive cleaner such as Soft Scrub on a cloth by rubbing in a circular motion. They can also be removed with a damp maroon or gray abrasive pad, just be sure to use the right pad to keep your finish consistent.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Always use heat trivets or hot pads when placing hot objects on any countertop surface. This also includes heat-generating appliances like toaster ovens and crock-pots. Do not place hot pans, pots, etc... directly on the countertop surface. Failing to do this could lead to scorching the surface or possibly cracking the material.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Solid surface is scratch resistant, but it should never be cut on directly. Always use a cutting board. Minor scratches can be removed by first washing the area where the scratch is located. Once you have washed the area dampen a maroon or gray abrasive pad and lightly rub the area in a circular motion. When finished clean the area again. If the scratch is not removed repeat this process and apply more pressure. Deeper scratches may require you to use rougher abrasives or contact a professional to repair the surface.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                In most cases both acrylic and polyester solid surface can be repaired if damaged. Acrylic materials are more easily damaged by chemicals such as paint removers, toilet bowl cleaners, drain cleaners, rust removers, contact adhesive solvent, ceramic cook top cleaners, oven cleaners, paint or varnish removers, lacquer thinners, metal cleaners, and products containing acetone or ethyl alcohol. Polyester materials are resistant to most solvents like acetone and ethyl alcohol, but mild acids like vinegar, lime juice and cola can etch the finish making the material appear dull. Dull spots can be removed with a damp maroon or gray abrasive pad, just be sure to use the right pad to keep your finish consistent.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    For additional information contact your distributor, sales person, write the company directly or call 800-984-9284.
